Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 01-11-2021

According to George Candler, store lambs hit “record highs” at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, November 1^st, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that some 500 lots went under the hammer at its weekly sheep sale.

Speaking following the sale, Candler said:

“The trade was on fire: the words to best describe today’s sheep sale in Kilkenny. The 500 lots on offer sold in record time with lambs peaking at €159 for 56kgs.”

Butcher lambs – €2.70-€3.02/kg or €140-€159/head:

• 15 55kgs – €153;
• 15 54kgs – €159;
• 10 53kgs – €153;

Factory lambs – €2.85-€3.10/kg or €120-€152/head:

• 15 49kgs – €152;

Cattle prices last week

According to George Candler, some 1,150 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, October 28^th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that quality store heifers and bullocks “sold well” at its weekly general cattle sale.

“A lot of cattle, especially plain Friesian-types, are showing effects of poor weather conditions. Cull cows also reduced in prices, especially those just out of the parlour,” he added.

• Bullocks 600kgs – €1.70-€2.70/kg or €1,260-€1,920/head;
• 500-600kgs – €1.60-€2.75/kg or €800-€1,590/head;
• 400-500kgs – €1.50-€2.70/kg or €650-€1,320/head;
• <400kgs – €1.50-€2.76/kg or €500-€1,090/head:
• Beef heifers – €1.90-€2.46/kg or €1,150-€2,180/head:
• Forward store heifers – €1.75-€2.60/kg or €880-€1,340/head:
• Light store heifers – €1.70-€2.70/kg or €550-€1,010/head:
•  Frieisan cull cows – €0.70-€1.75/kg;
• Continental cull cows – €1.30-€2.20/kg.
