‘Cattle, especially plain Friesian-types, are showing effects of poor weather’

Kilkenny Mart – cattle prices – 28-10-2021

According to George Candler, some 1,150 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, October 28th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that quality store heifers and bullocks “sold well” at its weekly general cattle sale.

“A lot of cattle, especially plain Friesian-types, are showing effects of poor weather conditions. Cull cows also reduced in prices, especially those just out of the parlour,” he added.

Last week’s prices

According to George Candler, a large entry comprising 1,200 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, October 21st, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that beef bullocks and heifers met with “good” demand, as did cull cows.

“Quality lots derived from the suckler herd sold well. On the other hand, plainer cattle, especially with dairy traits, were more difficult to get away.”
