Videos: Victoria Farms’ elite breeding females soar to €7,500

Victoria Farms’ virtual timed auction of elite breeding females, in conjunction with MartEye and Mid-Tipp (Thurles) Mart topped at €7,500, with in-calf lots proving to be the highest-selling contenders.

Headlining the sale was lot number 3, a December 2020-born Belgian Blue-cross-Limousin, out of FSN (AI BB bull) and an OZS-sired cow. She crossed the scales at 858kgs and is in-calf to AI Limousin bull, EBY, due with a heifer calf on 26-10-2023.

On her heels at €6,000 was lot number 4, an April 2021-born ELZ daughter, with some Limousin influence. She weighed in a 738kgs and is in-calf to the AI Limousin bull, Loyal, carrying a heifer calf, due on 15-12-2023.

Next in the ranks was the sale’s first lot at €5,200, an 863kg February 2021-born Belgian Blue-cross-Charolais heifer, in-calf to EBY and carrying a bull calf, due on 25-10-2023.

Meanwhile, the hammer fell at €5,000 for lot number 5, the timed virtual auction’s only non-maiden or in-calf heifer.

The second-calver was born in May 2018, weighed in at north of 900kgs and is carrying a bull calf to S841, due on 12-09-2023.

She is by the Belgian Blue stock bull, Fortbrack Fred ET, an Empire D’Ochain son and her dam is a PAM (AI Limousin bull) daughter.

Maiden heifers

The next highest-priced lot came in the form of a maiden heifer – lot number 22, at €3,900 – a daughter of PPS (AI BB bull) out of a DEZ (Cottage Devon) dam, by the name of Kellstar Hannah.

The Belgian Blue-Charolais hybrid was born in October 2021 and is scanned correct and right for breeding.

Lot 34 was next on the price table at €3,700 and took the form of a BB2247 daughter out of a TVR-sired (AI LM bull) dam.

She was born in February 2022 and is scanned correct and right for breeding.

The sale drew to a close with lot number 1 at 7pm on Monday, August 28th, 2023, and there was strong northern demand throughout, according to Gabriel Sloyan.
