Teagasc hiring with maximum salary rate close to €160,000

Teagasc is currently seeking a chief operations officer and director of knowledge transfer.

The positions will be based at its head office in Oak Park in Co. Carlow with remote working arrangements available, according to the job listings.

Salaries for the positions being offered by the state agency will range from a minimum of €139,628 to a maximum of €159,725.

Director of KT

The successful candidate will join a small senior management team, comprising the director of Teagasc, the director of research and the director of operations.

“This is a very important role within Teagasc and for Irish agriculture, and the appointee is expected to develop a strong national profile and contribute in a significant way to the development of the Irish agri-food industry and promote an agile way of delivering services and an agile approach to working.”

The director of the Knowledge Transfer directorate will have responsibility for leading the development of two programmes: advisory and education & training for the “benefit of end users employing the most innovative models and techniques”.

The head of advisory and the head of education report to the Director of Knowledge Transfer and are part of the leadership team.

They will be expected to drive new programmes in both advisory and education, with her/his leadership team, that will support primary producers to transform their production methods, adopt digital and other innovative solutions to deliver better climate and environmental results, enhance climate resilience and reduce the use of external inputs, while creating higher returns through added value and reduced costs.

Requirements

Candidates must have a relevant honours university degree (i.e. Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent professional qualification, along with a relevant postgraduate qualification

Salary

The appointment is subject to a 10-month probationary period with the salary scale as follows:

  • Minimum – €139,628;
  • 2 – €145,973;
  • 3 – €152,851;
  • Maximum – €159,725.

Chief operations officer

The chief operations officer (COO) will lead the operations directorate and “bring a strong ethos of delivering value for all stakeholders and funders of Teagasc”, according to the state agency.

The appointee will report to the director of Teagasc and will be part of the state agency’s senior management team, which also includes the director of research and director of knowledge transfer.

They will provide the “necessary” leadership to ensure the effective and efficient management of administrative and financial resource services across the organisation, the job listing added.

The COO will ensure that these functions actively contribute to the enablement and achievement of Teagasc’s overall strategic goals and objectives.

In addition, the COO will play a “leading role” in the delivery of its new statement of strategy for the period to 2024.

“Core functions of the post will be to lead the strategic development of people, strengthen programme support services and to ensure the effective management of financial and infrastructural resources.”

The candidate will have responsibility for; human resources, financial resources, procurement, ICT, authority affairs, corporate governance, health and safety, business planning, programme evaluation, risk management, staff training and development, quality customer service, property and legal services, organisational development and change management.

Educational requirements

Candidates must possess a relevant University Degree (Honours Level 8), or an equivalent professional qualification, in addition to a postgraduate qualification, or comparable qualification or experience, in a field that embraces strategic management and leadership.
