Kilkenny Mart – Sheep Prices – 05-12-2022
According to George Candler, some 800 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, December 5th, 2022.
The mart’s auctioneer reported that cull ewes met with a “sharper” trade, selling to €207/head, while butcher types soared to €170 and factory types peaked at €145.

Factory lambs – €2.75/kg-€3.00/kg or €115-€142/head:
- 12 48kgs – €141;
- 13 47kgs – €139;
- 18 45kgs – €125;
- 11 44kgs – €132;
- 10 42kgs – €123;
- 12 41kgs – €117.
Store lambs – €2.15-€2.90/kg or €70-€118/head:
- 21 40kgs – €116;
- 10 39kgs – €109;
- 12 38kgs – €102;
- 10 36kgs – €96;
- 22 34kgs – €93;
- 10 32kgs – €70.
Other categories:
- Cull ewes – €76-€207/head.
Dairy prices
According to Candler, dairy stock met with an “excellent” trade with a top call of €2,620.
He reported that there were fewer buyers in the market for in-calf heifers; March and April calvers were “more difficult to get away”.
In-calf Friesian cows and heifers changed hands from €1,250 to €1,460/head, while freshly calved Friesian cows and cow-heifers found new owners from €1,400 to €2,620/head.
