“Suckler farmers went home very satisfied,” following Castlerea Mart’s annual show and sale of continental weanlings on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, according to Brendan Egan.
The mart manager reported that “a superb yard of stock was presented for sale with bulls peaking at €5.23/kg, while heifers hit €5.68/kg.
“Overall, a superb trade prevailed with an excellent clearance taking place, on the back of activity from online and ringside buyers, mainly farmers, feeders and exporters,” Egan added.

Just over 200 bullocks changed hands at Monday’s sale, with highs of €1,970.
Quality stores were in “strong demand with a good clearance taking place”.
