Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 21-10-2021
According to Brendan Egan, over 700 cattle were on offer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, October 21st, 2021.
The mart manager reported that numbers remain high with the vast majority of entries in the 450-550 kilo weight bracket.
“Prices were similar to last week with breeding type lots being the best movers.”
“In the weanling rings, despite a dip in the quality on offer, the top quality lots remained a good trade.”
“For example, a 335kg Charolais bull made €1,440 or €4.29/kg, while a 300kg Simmental weanling heifer fetched €1,720 or €5.73/kg.”
“The dry cow trade was similar to last week with the top forward cows making up to €2,130. The cows and calves saw a five-year-old Shorthorn cow and her heifer calf fetch €2830.”

According to Egan, over 300 bullocks were on offer on Monday, October 18th, 2021.
He reported that a “good clearance took as demand for quality stores was maintained”.
Lots made up to €2.96/kg while the forward lots topped out at €2,000.
