Castlerea Mart Report – Cattle Prices – 12-05-2022
According to Brendan Egan, some 700 lots passed through the ring at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 12th, 2022 (12-05-2022).
The mart manager reported that farmers, agents, and online buyers were active at this week’s general cattle sale.
He noted that forward stores, in particular, were in “strong demand” with heifers to €2,580.
On the other hand, the bullock ring had a “similar tone” with lots making up to €2,080. Farmers and agents were in the market for light, “quality” stores in this ring,
Meanwhile, calves reached, while the cows with calves at foot topped out at €2280 – a price the mart recorded for a Charolais cow and her Limousin bull calf.
Lastly, the dry cow ring witnessed “very strong” with prices peaking at €2,640, while the weanling rings saw bulls hit €4.00/kg and heifers to €4.33/kg.
