Almost 2,000 head on offer at Carnew with prices to €2,400

Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 12-03-2022

According to David Quinn, almost 2,000 cattle passed through the rings at Carnew Mart over two days on Friday (11-03-2022) and Saturday (12-03-2022).

Firstly, on Friday night, 300 plus cows were on offer. He reported that they met with a “very strong” trade with beef up €20-€40/head while stores improved by €50/head on previous weeks.

The top price on the night was €2,400 for a 912kg LM cow while a 920kg Friesian entry changed hands at €1,960.

Carnew Mart 12-03-2022: Saturday’s sale

Quinn reported that a “massive” yard of cattle met with a “very lively” trade throughout.

He explained that beef and strong cattle were “very much in demand”, while activity from grass buyers for quality stores was “strong”.

Heifer prices:
  • 660KG – BBX – €1860;
  • 624KG – CH – €1750;
  • 568KG – LM – €1690;
  • 296KG – CH – €840;
  • 400KG – BB – €1100;
  • 348KG – BB – €1110.
Bullock prices:
  • 806KG – CH – €2240;
  • 722KG – LM – €2120;
  • 748KG – LM – €2060;
  • 644KG – LM – €1970;
  • 654KG – CH – €1760;
  • 412KG – LMX – €1170;
  • 300KG – CHX – €870;
  • 434KG – CH – €1230;
  • 540KG – CH – €1590.
Bull prices:
  • 474KG – CH – €1100;
  • 420KG – LM – €1130;
  • 390KG – BB – €1240;
  • 512KG – CH – €1460;
  • 550KG – CH – €1470;
  • 668KG – LM – €1880.
Calf prices

According to Quinn, just under 700 calves went under the hammer. He explained that strong calves were a “very lively” trade throughout, while lighter, younger calves were still a “tough” trade.

Continentals:
  • Bulls – €300-€450;
  • Heifers – €240-€360.
Hereford and Angus calves:
  • Bulls – €250-€320;
  • Heifers – €150- €280.
Friesian bulls
  • Strong farmers calves – €120 to €200
  • Export-types – €40-€80.
Sale days:
  • Thursday Ring 1– Sheep sale commencing at 10:00am ringside and online.
  • Friday Ring 1– Dry cows commencing at 4.00pm – depending on time of year
  • Saturday Ring 1– Dry cows commencing at 9.30am. Other categories commencing at 10.30am ringside and online.
  • Saturday Ring 2– Calf sale commencing at 11.00am ringside and online
