‘Strong’ export demand in Castlerea – Egan

According to Brendan Egan, over 350 lots crossed the scales at Thursday’s (June 29^th, 2023) cattle sale at Castlerea Mart, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

The mart manager reported that trade was “similar” to the previous week’s sale, with heifers to €2,350, bullocks to €1,980 and dry cows to €2,180.

Meanwhile, the highest call of €2,750 was achieved for a Charolais cow and her Charolais bull calf at foot.

Springers topped out at €2,000, while the calf trade with good numbers on offer returned a good clearance.

According to the mart manager, the weanling ring noticed “strong” export demand, with bulls to €3.87/kg, while heifers reached €3.49/kg.
