McHugh Brothers top Stranorlar sale with overall champion at €2,150

Prices skyrocketed to €2,150 at the Donegal Pedigree Wicklow Cheviot Breeders’ annual show and sale last Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at Stranorlar Mart with close to a full clearance across the board.

The event kicked off with a pre-sale show at 5:30 pm where the top pens of Cheviot rams, hoggets and ewe lambs were selected by the judge.

The Mc Hugh Brothers of Speenogue Farm swept the boards in the pre-sale show and the judges’ decisions were reflected in the sales ring.

They told www.thatsfarming.com: “We had a great show and sale for us, with the pinnacle being winning the overall champion male with lot 44 and going on to sell for €2,150.”
“We also picked up a red rosette for our hand-picked group of three. Our 7 rams averaged just over €1,100 on the evening.”

“Meanwhile, in the female section, we also won the female championship with our ewe lambs, lot number 11.”

“They went on to sell for €220 per head, while our hogget ewes saw a hammer price of €350 per head and picked up second in their class.”
