Exporters active for LM & BB bull weanlings in Ennis

Farming News/Mart Reports: Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 04-07-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, a smaller entry crossed the scales at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, July 4^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

Heifers achieved a top price of €4.10/kg, while a smaller entry of calves peaked at €490 for a one-month-old LM heifer calf.

The spokesperson remarked: “There was a great trade in general on Tuesday. Only a handful of suckler cows came under the hammer.”

“Quality was slightly more variable in the heifer weanling ring, but again some very fancy prices recorded in this ring.”

“Exporters were very active in the bull ring and gave exceptional prices for top-quality LM and BB weanlings, as these hit €4.12/kg,” the spokesperson added.

Weanling heifer prices:

• 1 CHX – 290kgs – €1,190 – €4.10/kg;
• LMX – 355Kgs – €1,140- €3.21/kg;
• 1 CHX – 280kgs – €1,110 – €3.96/kg;
• 1 CHX – 315kgs – €1,040 – €3.30/kg;
• 1 LMX – 350kgs – €1,100- €3.14/kg;
• CHX – 400kgs – €1,240 – €3.10/kg;
• 1 – CHX 330kgs – €1,010 – €3.06/kg;
• 2 – LMX 227kgs – €820 – €3.60/kg;
• LMX – 300kgs – €770 – €2.57/kg;
• CHX – 430kgs – €1,240 – €2.88/kg.

Weanling bull prices:

• BBX – 410kgs – €1,690 – €4.12/kg;
• LMX – 365kgs – €1,480 – €4.05/kg;
• BBX – 405kgs – €1,600 – €3.95/kg;
• LMX – 380kgs – €1,460- €3.84/kg;
• LMX – 340kgs – €1,320 – €3.88/kg;

Last week’s sale

Numbers dropped back at Ennis Mart, County Clare, on Thursday, June 29^th, 2023, with some 370 lots on offer.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that cow numbers “held steady” overall, with mostly continental types on offer, along with a small selection of bulls, with prices to €2,850 for a Charolais.
