VIDEO: Suckler pair sells for over €3,100

Markethill’s general cattle, which was held last Saturday (June 20th), attracted some 650 entries, according to a spokesperson.

“A great entry of sucklers sold in a flying trade to £2,850 (approximately €3,140) for a LM [cow-]heifer with a heifer calf at foot. [She is due to January to the same sire]” explained the spokesperson who reported a firm trade.

Heifers
Then spokesperson reported that an entry of some 200 heifers sold “readily in a firm trade”.

  • 266kg – LM – £685;
  • 362kg – AA – £835;
  • 310kg – LM – £705;
  • 374kg – CH – £835;
  • 472kg – CH – £1085;
  • 460kg – LM – £1045;
  • 454kg – LM – £1015;
  • 492kg – CH – £1075;
  • 520kg – LM – £1135;
  • 548kg – CH – £1195.

Forward heifers:

  • 600kg – CH – £1365;
  • 630kg – LM – £1425;
  • 602kg – CH – £1355;
  • 580kg – LM – £1305;
  • 636kg – LM – £1405;
  • 578kg – CH – £1275.

Bullocks:

A seasonal entry of some 225 bullocks met with a “flying” trade, the spokesperson added.

“The 200 weanlings on offer quickly cleared.” the spokesperson added.

“A large entry of sucklers met strong demand. The top price was £2850 for a LM [cow-] heifer with LM heifer calf at foot.”
