At a recent checkpoint, Gardaí in Mullingar stopped a driver from outside the county.
After his journey was deemed as non-essential, Gardaí at the scene directed the van driver to return home.
However, on further inspection, they discovered that the tax on the vehicle was over 1,000 days overdue.
Under the Road Traffic Act, the vehicle was impounded and the motorist was instructed to return home without his vehicle.
