Heifers to €2,730 at Tuam Mart

Tuam Mart report – cattle prices – 20-09-2021

According to Marion Devane, a large entry of good continental cattle went under the hammer at Tuam Mart on Monday, September 20th, 2021.

The mart manager commented: “Right across the board, there was exceptional stock on offer, which was reflected in the prices achieved.”

“There was a brisk cow trade was clear with the top price/kg going as far as €2.35/kg.”

Cull cow prices:
  • 715 kg – LM cow by a Lavally farmer – €1680 (€2.35/kg)
  • 765 kg – CHX cow by a Cummer farmer – €1520 (€1.99/kg);
  • 735 kg – LMX cow by a Milltown farmer – €1530 (2.08/kg);
  • 620 kg – CHX cow by a Milltown farmer – €1320 (€2.13/kg);
  • 650 kg – FR by a Tuam farmer -€1160 (1.78/kg);
  • 650 kg – AAX by a Tuam farmer – €1390 (€2.14/kg).
Heifer prices:

She reported that heifers met an “excellent trade feedlots were very anxious to fill sheds again”.

Devane reported that factories and feedlots were “anxious” to secure forward store and beef entries.

Tuam Mart 20-09-2021: Show and sale of Charolais weanlings

According to Devane, over 300 entries were offered at the mart’s show and sale of Charolais weanlings on Monday evening.

She reported that a “tremendous” trade prevailed for both heifers and bulls. There was a “high level” of activity ringside and online from both farmers and northern buyers.

“Many thanks to AIB Tuam and the Irish Charolais Cattle Society, who continue to be main sponsors of our annual Charolais weanling sale.”

Weanling heifers:
  • 292 kg – CHX by a Belclare farmer made €900 (€3.08/kg);
  • 325 kg – CHX by a Corofin farmer – €1200 (€3.69/kg);
  • 315 kg – CHX by a Tuam farmer – €960 (€3.05/kg);
  • 300 kg – CHX by a Claremorris farmer – €1030 (€3.43/kg);
  • 335 kg – CHX by a Castlegar farmer – €1040 (€3.10/kg);
  • 1st-prize winning heifer went to John Charles from Dunmore with his heifer weighing in at 480 kg making €2730 (€5.69/kg).
Winners in the weanling heifer classes:
  • John Charles, Dunmore winning 1st place in best heifer class
  • Kevin Hession, Gortbeg winning 2nd place in heifer class
  • Sean McHugh, Belclare winning 1st place in the pairs
Weanling bulls:
  • 245 kg – CH by Tuam farmer – €990 (4.04/kg);
  • 265 kg – CHX by a Lavally farmer – €1030 (€3.89/kg);
  • 295 kg – CHX by a Tuam farm – €980 (€3.32/kg);
  • 350 kg – CHX by Cortoon farmer -€1290 (€3.69/kg);
  • 315 kg – CHX by a Menlough farmer – €1250 (€3.97/kg);
  • 425 kg – CHX by a Brownsgrove farmer – €1340 (€3.15/kg).
Winners in the weanling bull classes:
  • Annmarie Duffy, Barnaderg winning 1st place for the best bull and 1st in the pairs
  • Michael Murphy, Dunmore came 2nd in the best bull class
  • TJ Joyce, Lenamore winning 2nd place in pairs
