Tuesday, March 3rd saw a smaller entry of bull and weanling heifers go under the hammer at Ennis Mart, while calf numbers increased by 50%, according to a spokesperson.
They outlined that trade in the bull ring was similar to the previous week, while heifers improved by €20-€30/hd. “Trade for the better calves also improved today by €10-€20/head, but poor calves were a tough trade as usual.”
“Calves need to be at least 3-weeks-old and well-fed to attract interest.” the spokesperson added.
Pairs in the suckler ring reached €2,250, while one dairy cow was on offer, a second-calver and she pushed up to €1,380.
