Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 22-11-2021

According to George Candler, some 500 sheep were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, November 22^nd, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that sheep prices were back €2-€4/head on the previous week’s returns.

Speaking following the mart sale, he said: “Butcher-type lambs peaked at €168, with factory-type lambs to highs of €151 for 47kgs.”

“Store lambs were in short supply,” the auctioneer added.

Butcher lambs – €3.00-€3.26/kg or €158-€168/head:

• 15 55kgs – €166;
• 12 54kgs – €164;
• 13 53kgs – €167;
• 12 52kgs – €168;
• 14 51kgs – €166;
• 13 50kgs – €163.

Factory lambs – €3.20-€3.30/kg or €134-€154/head:

• 13 48kgs – €154;
• 12 47kgs – €151;
• 8 46kgs – €150;
• 10 44kgs – €145;
• 8 43kgs – €140;
• 11 42kgs – €136.

Store lambs – €3.00-€3.37/kg or €90-€138/head:

• 8 41kgs – €138;
• 5 40kgs – €132;

• 10 31kgs – €95.

• Cast ewes – €70-€150/head.

Previous week’s sheep prices

According to George Candler, some 550 sheep went under the hammer at the mart’s sale on Monday, November 15^th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that the “somewhat bigger sale of sheep met an excellent trade”.

“There was another super trade for lambs with supply not meeting the excellent demand,’” he remarked.

Candler explained that butcher lambs peaked at €174/head, while factory lambs hit €150/head and store lambs topped out at €131/head.
