Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 15-11-2021

According to George Candler, some 550 sheep went under the hammer at the mart’s sale on Monday, November 15^th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that the “somewhat bigger sale of sheep met an excellent trade”.

“There was another super trade for lambs with supply not meeting the excellent demand,’” he remarked.

Candler explained that butcher lambs peaked at €174/head, while factory lambs hit €150/head and store lambs topped out at €131/head.

Butcher lambs – €3.15-€3.46/kg or €148-€174/head:

• 18 51kgs – €164;

Factory lambs – €3.10-€3.26/kg or €125-€150/head:

• 12 46kgs – €150;

Store lambs – €2.80-€3.53/kg or €95-€131/head:

Last week’s sheep prices

According to George Candler, just over 400 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, November 8^th, 2021.

He reported that a smaller entry led to a full clearance at its weekly sheep sale, with tops of €164 for butcher-type lambs and cull ewes to €158.

Speaking following the sale, the mart’s cattle, and sheep auctioneer, said:

“Another lively trade for all sheep in Kilkenny. Prices were €2-€7 per head better than last week’s returns.”
