‘Plain animals with dairy influence were more difficult to sell’ – Candler

Kilkenny Mart report – cattle prices – 19-08-2021

According to George Candler, a smaller entry of some 750 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, August 19th, 2021.

Speaking following the sale, he said: “A smaller sale of cattle compared to last week with trade reduced for plain-type animals.”

Last week’s prices:

According to George Candler, just under 1,000 cattle were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, August 12th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that beef-type bullocks and heifers “showed no change in price this week”.

However, “for the first time this year, a general cooling of prices by €10 to €40 per head for dairy influenced animals.”

“Beef bullocks and heifers, which were not over plentiful, met a good selling trade as did the top quality stores in both rings.”

“Due to the fact that quality stores bullocks and heifers are selling, well potential buyers are becoming more selective in their purchasing habits.”

“A good selection of cull bulls saw prices range from €990-€2,260/head,” Candler added.
