Cattle prices at last week’s sale:
According to George Candler, sales exceeded the €1 million barrier for the third consecutive week at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, July 15th, 2021.
He reported that a slightly smaller entry, comprising some 1,040 lots, went under the hammer.
“Beef and forward store bullocks and heifers still met an excellent trade. The good sales ring prices are attracting more sellers who would normally go directly to the factory.”
“The fact they know exactly what price they have secured is beneficial and are not at the mercy of deduction, e.g., non-QA, overage.”
“Trade continues strong for quality beef and store bullock and heifers, but lighter, Hereford heifers and plainer Friesian bullocks are more difficult to sell.”
Upcoming sales:
- Sheep and calf sale – Mondays at 10 am with dairy sale at 12 pm
- Cattle sale – Thursday – Cows at 10 am, followed by heifers, with bullocks at 10:30 am.
