‘The last two cattle sales in Kilkenny Mart have recorded a total of over €1 million/sale’

According to George Candler, over 1,000 cattle were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, July 8th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “excellent” trade for all types – especially beef and forward store bullocks and heifers.

Speaking following the sale, he said: “Cull cows sold very well with a top call of €2.36 per kilo.”

“Fancy, light stores ranged from €2.65-€3.25/kg and even some heavier bullocks.”

“The last two cattle sales in Kilkenny Mart have recorded a total of over €1 million per sale – a figure unprecedented in the month of July,” he added.

Bullocks – 600kgs – €1.75-€2.72/kg or €1,200-€2,020/head:
  • CH – 775kg – €2,020;
  • 3 HE – 740kg – €1,780;
  • 2 HE – 710kg – €1,680;
  • 7 FR – 645kg – €1,420;
  • 2 LM – 650kg – €1,690;
  • 2 CH – 690kg – €1,880.
500-600kgs – €1.80-€2.85/kg or 4915-€1,580/head:
  • 8 CH – 595kg – €1,540;
  • 5 AA – 570kg – €1,460;
  • 2 CH – 565kg – €1,580;
  • 4 FR – 540kg – €1,170;
  • CH – 530kg – €1,510;

Cattle prices at Kilkenny Mart

According to George Candler, just under 1,000 cattle were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, July 1st, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that trade for beef and forward store bullocks and heifers remained “strong”.

“Some Friesian bullocks were reduced compared to last weeks, but quality store bullocks and heifers are still selling well.”

“Cull cows met a 100% clearance and reached a top call of €2,160. Plainer cattle tended to be easier.”
