Bull weanling exporters & finishers active in Ennis

Farming News/Mart Reports: Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 11-07-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, numbers were back compared to the corresponding special sale of autumn-born weanlings on Tuesday, March 11^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

They reported that “trade was strong but no dearer overall than previous weeks”.

“Quite a number of strong weanlings available and again, shippers were very active in the bull ring, as were a few bull finishers also.”

At Tuesday’s sale, bulls hit €4.18/kg and heifers reached €4.20/kg.

The spokesperson said that the bull ring attracted “some great quality”, with more “mixed quality” in the heifer ring.

Meanwhile, a small entry of suckler stock as pairs hit €2,390, while just 40 calves crossed the scales, with highs of €440 for a one-month-old Limousin heifer calf.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, a smaller entry crossed the scales at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, July 4^th, 2023.

Heifers achieved a top price of €4.10/kg, while a smaller entry of calves peaked at €490 for a one-month-old LM heifer calf.

The spokesperson remarked: “There was a great trade in general on Tuesday. Only a handful of suckler cows came under the hammer.”

“Exporters were very active in the bull ring and gave exceptional prices for top-quality LM and BB weanlings, as these hit €4.12/kg,” the spokesperson added.
