28,000gns Feb-born Dutch Spotted ram lamb sets new breed record

Husband and wife team, Allen and Emma Shortt, from Northern Ireland, have set what is understood to be a new Dutch Spotted breed price record of 28,000gns.

They have smashed the previous record of 20,000gns that an imported aged ewe from David Roberts’ Boyo flock set at the ‘Spotacular’ sale in Worcester last year.

The Shortt’s ram lamb, lot 1451, went under the hammer at the Dutch Spotted Society’s show and sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, Cumbria, on August 27^th, 2022.

Ahead of the sale, the breeders described February-2022-born Diamond Fireball as “one of this year’s favourites and maybe an all-time favourite”.

The record breaker is by Carlaustan Extrovert out of Bella and is a maternal brother to the 11k Dakota, 5.5k Eminem and 5k Elsa.

According to the breeders, he is a full ET brother to the 3k Diamond Felix sold at Swatragh in June and the 3.1k Diamond Fabio that was reserve overall champion at Balmoral Show in May 2022.

500 registereed rams and females were catalogued for the sale, which Harrison and Hetherington oversaw the running of.
