Heifers to €1,950 & bullocks to €1,910 in Ballinrobe – Gibsey

Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 21-06-2023

According to Teresa Gibsey, bullocks topped out at €1,910, while heifers hit €1,950, and cull cows soared to €1,510 at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, which attracted circa 60 lots, on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

Dry cows

The mart’s assistant manager reported that dry cows sold for an average of €1325 per head, with prices from €1,100 to €1,550.

Top of the town was a 2018-born LMX cow weighing 730kgs at €1,550 or €2.12/kg.

• LMX – 540kgs – 2019-born – €1,390;
• FR – 625kgs – 2011-born – €1,120;
• BBX – 480kgs – Feb-2020-born (41 months with no calf reg) – €1,100.

Heifers

Heifers were sold directly after cows this week, with prices ranging from €590 to €1,950 per head or €2.07 to €3.36 per kg.

The average for heifers 500kg plus was €2.70/kg & heifers 400 to 500kg stood €2.71/kg of an average.
Sample prices from this ring as follows:

• CHX – 705KG – €1,950 – €2.77/KG – 38 months;
• AAX – 545KG – €1,540 – €2.83/KG;
• CHX – 475KG – €1,340 – €2.82/KG;
• LMX – 305KG – €940 – €3.08/KG;
• LMX – 280KG – €940 – €3.36/KG.

Bullock prices

Bullocks pushed from €500 to €1,9100 per head or €1.65 to €4.04 per kg. The average for bullocks 500kg plus was €2.83/kg, while lighter bullocks 300 to 400 kgs levelled at €2.43/kg.

Prices on the day were:

• LMX – 655KG – €1,910 – €2.92/KG;
• CHX – 245KG – €990 – €4.04/KG;
• LMX – 580KG – €1,720 – €2.97/KG;
• CHX – 335KG – €1,130 – €3.37/KG;
• LMX – 235KG – €830 – €3.53/KG.

Weanling bulls:

Weanling bulls made from €620 to €1300 per head with a top price going to a LMX, 365kg, €1300, €3.56/kg and price per kilo went to LMX, 285kg, €1060, €3.72/kg.

Calf prices:

• 2-month-old LMX heifer calf – 27-04-2023 – 90kgs – €340.

Last week’s cattle prices

A smaller entry of cattle did not deter trade from maintaining on the previous week at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, Co Mayo on Wednesday, Thursday, 13th, 2023.

Bullocks topped out at €1,560, while heifers maxed out at €1,650, and cull cows pushed up to €2,200.

According to Teresa Gibsey, bullock prices ranged from €860 to €1,560 per head or €2.34 to €3.86 per kg.

The average for bullocks 400 to 500kg plus was €2.93/kg, a 32-cent increase on June 2022 prices, according to the mart’s assistant manager.
