Farming News/Mart Reports – Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 09-08-2023

According to Teresa Gibsey of Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, last Wednesday’s (August 9^th, 2023), cattle sale saw bullocks reach €1,600, heifers top at €1,570 and cull cows fetched up to €1,590.

Bullocks

Bullock prices ranged from €510 to €1,600 per head or €1.44 to €2.87 per kg.

The average for bullocks 500kg plus was €2.69/kg, while lighter bullocks 400 to 500 kgs sold for €2.17/kg, on average.

• LMX – 540KG – €1,550 – €2.87/KG;
• CHX – 555KG – €1,550 – €2.79/KG;
• CH – 515KG – €1,360 – €2.64/KG;
• AAX – 460KG – €1,060 – €2.30/KG;
• LMX – 385KG – €940 – €2.44/KG.

Cull cow prices

At last week’s sale, the average for dry cows was €1230 per head.

Cow prices ranged from €1,040 to €1,590 with the highest call going to a farmer from Davros, Hollymount at €2.06/kg with an AAX, weighing 770kg.

Heifer prices varied from €610 to €1,570 per head or €1.82 to €3.05 per kg. The average for heifers 500kg plus was €2.63/kg & entries in the 400 to 500kg weight bracket levelled at €2.52/kg.

• AU – 570KG – €1,540 – €2.70/KG;
• AAX – 418KG – €1,110 – €2.65/KG;
• LMX – 405KG – €1,020 – €2.52/KG;
• AAX – 385KG – €1,010 – €2.65/KG;
• LMX – 200KG – €610 – €3.05/KG.

Sheep prices – Sales on 10-08-2023 and 11-08-2023

According to Gibsey, “sheep numbers are on the rise” with a turnout out of 1500 on Thursday and 500 hoggets on Friday 11th.

Lambs/hoggets changed hands from €1.46 to €3.18/kg or €50 to €143 with an average of €95 per head or €2.55/kg.

Lamb prices on the day:

• 59kg, €143, €2.42/kg.
• 48kg, ewe lambs, €136, €2.83/kg.
• 42kg, €132, €3.14/kg.
• 44kg, ewe lambs, €135, €3.07/kg.
• 40kg, lambs, €126, €3.15/kg.
• 40kg, lambs, €127, €3.18/kg.

Cull ewes sold from €50 to €200 per head with an average of €95 paid per head or price per kilo €1.36 avg.

Sample prices as follows:

• 90kg, €200, €2.22/kg;
• 94kg, €196, €2.09/kg;
• 82kg, €162, €1.98/kg.

A “fine” selection of hogget’s turned out for the mart’s first breeding sale with a top price of €220 paid out for 2 pens.

The average for the day was €172 with prices ranging from €94 to €220, according to Gibsey’s report.

2-day Mayo Mule & Greyface Group sale

The Mayo Mule & Greyface Group will host its annual two-day premier sale this Friday 18^th and Saturday, August 19^th, 2023, in Aurivo Mart, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, F31AY89.

The sale commences at 11.00 am sharp on both days with viewing from 9.00 am.

On offer over the two days will be 2,600 sheep, with 850 hoggets on Friday, and 1,750 lambs on Saturday.
