Over 700 lots for Mayo Mule & Greyface Group’s sale

The Mayo Mule & Greyface Group will host its third and final sale of the year this Friday, September 23rd, 2022, at Aurivo Mart, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, F31AY89.

A group spokesperson told That’s Farming that 700 Mayo Mule lambs and 40 Greyface hoggets are catalogued for sale.

The sale will commence at 11.00 am sharp with viewing from 9.00 am and ringside and online bidding – register with the mart before the sale if you have not purchased previously from this mart.

Mayo Mule sale 

The spokesperson continued:

“The lambs on the day will suit all types of farmers, from lambs that will be fit to breed this season to lambs that will run over as hoggets for next season.”

“The Mayo Mule ewe has become more and more popular over the years. This is due to their great prolificacy, mothering ability, hardiness, ease of care and their ability to produce quality lambs at a fast rate.”

“The Mayo Mule ewe is able to produce two good even quality lambs a year. Many of our Mule ewe lambs at the group’s sale are able to be bred in their first year.”

“These strong ewe lambs have a lambing percentage of 1.2 to 1.5. With this return in the first year, your investment is well on the way to being recouped.”

  2. Ease of management and adaptability to different production systems;
  3. Excellent mothering instincts;
  4. Excellent milking ability;
  5. Prolificacy;
  • Mature ewe: 1.8 — 2.0;
  • Ewe hoggets: 1.6 — 1.8;
  • Strong ewe lambs: 1.2 — 1.5;
  1. Hardiness, thriftiness and longevity;
  2. Can improve overall profitability;
  3. Hybrid vigour.

The spokesperson continued: “We, as a group, have found that our repeat custom has been very strong, with customers coming back year on year to purchase our quality stock.”

“Prices for lambs at this sale last year ranged from €80 – €140, with a 100% clearance of lambs on the day. Nationwide delivery of stock purchased at our sale on Friday can be arranged if required to any part of the country,” they concluded.
