Women in agriculture is theme of 80th Virginia Agricultural Show

In this article, a spokesperson for Virginia Agricultural Show, previews this year’s event, which carries the theme of women in agriculture.

Show president, Owen Brodie, is inviting everyone to The Showgrounds in Virginia on August 23rd, 2023, to come and join us for a fun-filled day at the annual Virginia Agricultural Show as we celebrate its 80th birthday.

This is the end-of-summer showcase for agriculture and rural life, purpose-built showgrounds make this event the envy of shows around the country.

Its picturesque setting on the shores of Lough Ramor makes it a great day trip for farming and non-farming families alike.

Our event promises to be a fantastic opportunity to soak up the sights and sounds of summer days while enjoying a range of exciting activities.

With over 150 trade stands and 500 competitions to choose from, you are sure to find something that catches your eye.

Diageo Baileys Champion Cow

The Diageo Baileys Champion Cow is once again one of the centrepieces at this year’s show. The makers of Baileys and its milk supplier, Tirlán, are searching for the finest example of the Holstein Friesian breed.

Fondly known as the ‘All Ireland’ for dairy cows, entrants will be battling it out for coveted title and a range of category prizes.

There is much at stake for the owners of these cows, a win in the show ring at ‘The Baileys’ is the ultimate form of promotion and recognition for their herd and there is huge pride in representing their county.

Arrive early and see the grooming and powdering of these bovine beauties in the ‘Baileys Cow Hotel’ before the official parade commences.

Besides, if you are a fan of equestrianism, you do not want to miss our horse events, where you can see some of the most majestic animals in action.

Dog lovers will also be in their element, with a range of competitions and displays to enjoy. And for those who are interested in livestock farming, our cattle, sheep, and poultry events will be a great chance to view quality at its finest.

Alternatively, if you have a passion for home industries, you can browse our selection of stalls selling everything from homemade jams and chutneys to beautiful, knitted garments.

And if you need a break from all the excitement, why not take a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends?

Moreover, this year, our theme is women in agriculture, and we are excited to celebrate the many talented women who are driving the industry forward.

We will be showcasing some of the incredible contributions that women have made to agriculture over the years, and we hope that you’ll join us in recognising their achievements.

Parking is free and tickets are available via our new website.

So why not mark your calendar and come and join us for an unforgettable day out?

Whether you are a seasoned agricultural show-goer or just looking for a fun day out with friends and family, we promise that you will not be disappointed.
