Report: Prices from €2 to €3,170 at Castlerea – Egan

Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 23-03-2023

According to Brendan Egan, slightly larger numbers came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, March 23th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that despite continued inclement weather conditions, prices “were maintained on the previous week”.

The calf ring, with increased lots on offer, witnessed what he described as “excellent” demand for the AAX and HEX calves, but there was “a variance” in price for dairy calves, with quality and strength being the deciding factors.

Egan remarked: “The weanling rings witnessed excellent demand this week with bulls making up to €4.32/kg, while heifer weanlings made up to €4.24 a kilo.”

“The heifer ring witnessed good demand for both stores and forward lots, with lots topping out at €2170.”

“Elsewhere, the dry cow ring noticed a top price of €3,170 paid or €3.25 a kilo and breeding stock fetched up to €2120,” the mart manager added.
