Quality was the main driver of price at Castlerea Mart’s annual show and sale of continental heifers and Belgian Blue weanlings at Castlerea Mart on Thursday (September 24th), according to Brendan Egan.
He reported that in the heifer ring, prices peaked at €950 over or €2.93/kg, while in the weanling heifer ring a top price of €3,010 was paid for a 350kg Belgian Blue weanling heifer or €8.60/kg, the top price of €1,560 was paid for a 320kg Belgian bull weanling bull or €4.87/kg.
“Dry cows, breeding stock and runners met with good demand also resulting in an excellent clearance.”
