Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 01-07-2021

According to Brendan Egan, some 500 cattle were on offer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, July 1^st, 2021.

According to the mart manager, the bullock ring witnessed a “very lively trade”. He reported that purchasers paid “exceptional prices” of up to €3.25/kg for quality, light store bullocks.

“The heavier lots recorded equally strong demand with lots making up to €1,185 over or €2.78/kg. Increased northern demand was evident this week. The heifer ring also reported a good clearance this week with prices and trade similar to previous weeks.”

“The dry cow trade remains very strong with cows making up to €1,900 and the top lots fetching €2.43 a kilo.”

“Breeding stock remains a lively trade also with €2,510 forked out for a Limousin cow and her bull calf at foot.”

“While calves, with fewer numbers on offer, are still in strong demand. The weanling trade witnessed good farmer demand this week with prices reflective of quality,” Egan added.
