A calf, weighing approximately 10kgs, was born on a suckler farm in Enniscrone, Co. Sligo last week.
The AI-bred Salers bull was born to a Belgian-Blue dam (a first-calver) on Peter Gilmartin’s enterprise last Tuesday (March 24th).
Speaking to Catherina Cunnane, editor of That’s Farming, he said: “The calf is about the size of a collie dog and is full-term. The calf and calf are both doing really well.”
“He is spoilt and won’t suck the cow at all – he waits for me to feed him every single day.”
“I’d say he was approximately 10kgs when he was born, and he has grown a good bit since then. He weighed 12.3 kgs on Sunday (March 29th) and is thriving well.” Patrick concluded.
