An elderly male has been airlifted to hospital after he was attacked by a cow which had escaped from a livestock mart.
The incident occurred across the waters in Wales yesterday (Saturday, November 19th, 2022).
Shortly after 10 am, Dyfed-Powys Police received reports that an animal had escaped from Whitland Mart
Police were informed that “a cow was dangerously out of control”.
“The cow made its way to the centre of the village. It came across an elderly man in North Road, where it attacked and trampled him, causing serious injury,” a police spokesperson explained in a statement.
The man was conveyed by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
“The cow then went on the rail track in the area, and trains had to be put on stop to “mitigate the danger to them”, the police spokesperson added.
They continued: “Eventually, it made its way to a field, where every effort was made to safely contain it in consultation with the owner.
“Unfortunately, all attempts failed, and due to the danger posed by the animal, it was humanely dispatched with the consent of the owner.”
According to the police spokesperson, the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

Health and Safety Executive-led investigation found that there were not any suitable refuges or barriers within the loading area for those handling the livestock to shelter behind if, for example, cattle became fractious.
Gisburn Auction Marts Ltd of The Auction Mart, Gisburn, Clitheroe, Lancashire pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
The judge ordered the company to pay a fine to the tune of £18,000 along with £8,819 in costs.
