A Facebook page, entitled Irish Truckers and Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices has announced details of a further protest.
Organisers have warned that “Dublin will be in complete lockdown and for as long as it takes until our demands are agreed upon by government”.
The group has compiled a list of six demands ahead of its planned protest on Monday, April 11th, 2022.
They outlined that they have selected this date as it will not interfere with schools and will allow for bus operators to attend.
They said their demands will “benefit each and every individual, home and business” in the country.
Their demands are as follows:
- Petrol capped @ €1.10/L;
- Diesel capped @ €1.20/L;
- Green diesel capped @ 65c/L
- Home heating capped @ 65c/L (These figures are inclusive of VAT and are for everyone at home and at the pump)
- Carbon Tax to be scrapped
- Minister Eamon Ryan to step down with immediate effect!
The social media post says:” You will see people and vehicles from all sectors and organisations as well as individual members of the public, from farmers, fishing operators, truckers & hauliers, taxis, buses, nurses & private care workers, builders, plant operators and so on.”
“We would advise if you have an appointment in Dublin that week that you reschedule where possible. For those making essential journeys, please give extra travel time,” the post added.
Another post read: “Remember we need everyone to stand up. It is up to you, the individual, to join us in protest and let your voice be heard.”
“This is for everyone in Ireland, and this will benefit everyone. Make sure to be counted,” the post added.
The group previously held protests in the capital in late 2021.
€100/week subsidy for hauliers
Earlier this month, the government announced a €100/week subsidy for hauliers.
The emergency support measure for licensed hauliers aims to address cost pressures arising from current high fuel prices, particularly due to the current conflict in Ukraine.
The temporary grant scheme will provide a payment of €100 per week for every heavy goods vehicle (over 3.5 tonnes) as listed on a road haulage operator’s licence.
The scheme will operate for eight weeks. The government estimates that the temporary response to extraordinary circumstances will cost the state €18 million.
