Approximately 85 cattle ran through a high street in the UK over the weekend.
They passed the Phoenix Hotel, in Chard town centre, Somerset on Saturday night (October 24th), which released CCTV. Police attended the scene after receiving several calls from members of the public.
Speaking to That’s Farming, Steven Jones, manager at the Phoenix Hotel, said: “We were just closing Saturday night October 24th) it was 9.45 pm and then cows went running down town.”
“As seen from the CCTV footage, some were on the pavement right outside the pub’s front door. We got one of the staff to call the police.”
“The cows ended up in Chard Rugby Club’s playing field, and made a mess of it from what I hear,” he concluded.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary added: “We received several calls at about 9.45pm regarding cows in High Street, Chard.”
“Road closures were put in place at junction with Fore Street and A30 as a precaution.”
“It was estimated that about 85 cows had escaped. Officers remained at the scene until about midnight as they and members of the public rounded up the animals.”
It is understood that nobody was hurt during the incident.
