Gerry Connellan reported a 98% clearance in the cull cow ring at Elphin Mart on Monday, November 23rd.
He noted that good quality culls met with “good demand”. The average price achieved was €1,197 as cows ranged from €400 to €1,760 for an 865 kg Belgian Blue.
Springers
The mart manager noted that 76% of in-calf entries found new homes. The average price achieved was €1,398.
Prices ranged from €1,020 to €1,960 for a Limousin cow, second calver, due early December to EBY.
Heifer weanlings
“89% clearance of heifer weanlings with prices steady and governed by quality.”
- < 300 kg – The average price achieved was €673 with a maximum price of €790 for a 265 kg Charolais;
- 300-400 kg – The average price achieved was €748 with a maximum price of €930 for a 310 kg Charolais;
- 400-500 kg – The average price achieved was €890 with a maximum price of €920 for 430 kg Charolais.
Bull weanlings
“83% clearance of bull weanlings with prices governed by quality.”
- Weanlings < 300 kg – The average price achieved was €771 with a maximum of €1,120 for a 300 kg Charolais;
- Weanlings 300-400 kg – The average price achieved was €817 with a maximum of €960 for a 390 kg Limousin;
- Weanlings 400-500 kg – The average price achieved was €963 with a maximum of €1,080 for 490 kg Charolais.
- Male weanlings >500 kg – The maximum price of €1,160 for a 540 kg Charolais.

Connellan reported a full clearance of lambs with prices as follows:
- 2kg – €130.50;
- 5kg – €126;
- 5kg – €121.50;
- 43kg – €104;
- 5 kg – €92;
- 35 kg – €89.
Ewes: 97% clearance of ewes ranged from €96 to €125.

Connellan reported an 85% clearance in the cull cow category at last week’s sale, as prices ranged from €130-€1,870.
