Officers are investigating reports of a fail-to-stop road traffic collision involving a tractor with a mower in West Dorset.
The incident occurred just before midday on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said:
“At around 11.50 am on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021, a dark blue New Holland tractor with a triple green mower on the back collided with a telegraph pole on Bluntshay Lane near Whitchurch Canonicorum.”
It was reported that the tractor failed to stop at the scene and made off toward the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum.
“The telegraph pole was split into two parts, leaving exposed cables. Road closures were put in place as telecommunications engineers carried out repairs.”
Appeal for information
Police Constable Maddie Barber, of West Dorset police, said:
“We are investigating this incident and have made enquiries at local farms. They have no knowledge of anyone driving a tractor of this description in the area.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information relating to anyone driving a tractor matching the description given in the vicinity on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021, to please contact us.
“I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam fitted to please check their footage to see if they have captured the tractor described above.”

Farmer uses telehander to remove car
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the UK, a farmer used a telescopic handler to remove a car that reportedly had been left in front of a gateway on private land over the weekend.
The incident, involving the Kramer telescopic load and Vauxhall saloon car, occurred on Saturday, June 5th, 2021, near Barnard Castle, County Durham.
A man filming the incident on his mobile kicked the telehandler’s side. The telescopic handler pushed the car before lifting it off the ground and flipping it onto its side at the farm entrance.
Police attended the scene of the incident.
