Texel Dispersal Sale
Dáire and Enda McManamon are set to disperse their multi-prize-winning Derrylahan Texel flock in its entirety later this week.
The Newport, Co Mayo natives’ sale will take place at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart on Friday night (December 9th, 2022) at 6:30 pm.
55 lots are catalogued for the sale, which include:
- Hogget ewes;
- Ewe lambs;
- A stock ram, Teiglum Distinct;
- Frozen embryos;
- Frozen semen from some of its “top” breeding rams of the last ten years.
The Derrylahan Texel flock was established in 2008, and the family lambed their first ewes in spring of 2009.
The brothers told That’s Farming editor, Catherina Cunnane about the flock’s humble beginnings:
“We purchased what we saw to be the best females we could afford at the time and gradually developed and improved the flock as the years progressed.”
“We are delighted to be able to offer a strong batch of hogget ewes, with some quality stock ewes and the best of this year’s ewe lamb crop.”
“Also, we are offering one of our stock rams, along with some frozen embryos and frozen semen.”
“The females on offer here are from our very top bloodlines that have served us well over the years.”
“We have had a most enjoyable journey with them and have attended many shows and sales in the years since and have achieved some level of success along the way,” the two brothers added.
Notable sales over the years included that of Derrylahan Big Balls at €6,200 in 2019, while females made €3,200, €2,500 and €2,000 last year and €2,800, €2,600 and €2,500 on two occasions in 2020.

They continued: “This is a full dispersal sale of the flock; we are selling our sheep because we do not have the time required to do the job as well as we would like.”
“Ray Clarke will be the auctioneer on the night. We still really love Texel sheep and would not rule out getting back into breeding Texels in the future.”
“We hope that you can continue to support them wherever possible.”
“Texels have been a massive part of our lives for the past 14 years, and I am sure we will both have mixed emotions on the night of the sale.”
