‘Strong’ shipping activity in the bull weanling ring at Ennis

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 600 lots crossed the scales at its cattle sale on Tuesday, December 6^th, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that trade was “very strong” as farmers were “very active”, while there was “strong” shipping activity in the bull weanling ring also.

A small entry of calves came under the hammer, and these made to €460, while in the suckler ring, €2,480 was the top call for an in-calf lot and pairs in this ring made to €2,520.

“There was a great appetite for stock all around at Tuesday’s sale,” the spokesperson noted.

Weanling heifer prices:

• CHX – 290kgs – €1,030 – €3.55/kg;
• LM – 245kgs – €1,020- €4.16/kg;
• LM – 270kgs – €980 – €3.63/kg;
• CH – 340kgs – €1,270 – €3.73/kg;
• CH – 320kgs – €1,080- €3.37/kg;
• CH – 300kgs – €1,060 – €3.53/kg;
• CH – 435kgs – €1,300 – €2.98/kg;

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just under 700 lots crossed the scales at its general cattle sale on Tuesday, November 29^th, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that trade was “strong” in all rings, which saw “quite a number of quality stock which helped the trade”.

They remarked: “We had a clearance sale of 65 in-calf suckler cows due to calve in February and March next year and varying in age from 2014 to 2019.”

“Runner heifers sold to €720, and runner bulls made to €950. A dozen calves on offer, and these made to €540 for a Charolais bull, 6-weeks-old,” the spokesperson added.
