The sheep trade “tended a bit easier” in Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday (May 11th), according to George Candler.
There was the smaller number of 400 on offer on the day, with spring lamb prices falling back by €4-6/head.
Candler reported that while both spring lamb and hogget prices experienced a decrease on previous weeks, there was good news in the cull ewe market as prices remained strong. A top price of €142.50 was paid for ewes weighing 107kg.
Butchers lambs – €2.20-€2.95/kg or €108-€132/head:

Butcher hoggets – €2.20-€2.50/kg or €115-€126/head:

- Freshly calved Friesian cows and heifers – €1100-€1550/head.
