Motorcyclist (20s) dies in single-vehicle RTC in Cavan

A male, aged in his 20s, has died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle in Co Cavan.

The collision occurred at approximately 8 pm yesterday evening (Wednesday), on the R165 at Cornakill, Kingscourt, County Cavan.

The R165 at Cornakill in Kingscourt is currently closed in both directions, with local diversions in place and forensic collision investigators will conduct an examination of the scene.

In a statement to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 8pm on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023, on the R165 at Cornakill, Kingscourt, County Cavan.”

“The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“The body was taken to the morgue at Cavan General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date. No other injuries to persons were reported.”

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.”

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R165 between Kingscourt and Cornakill between the hours of 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Male dies following quad bike incident

The news comes less than three weeks after the death of another young male following a fatal incident involving a quad bike at a wooded area in Co Laois.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the incident near Ballyshanduff, Ballybrittas, County Laois, on Sunday, April 9th, 2023.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm and involved a quad bike with two males on board.

A male youth in his teens was removed from the scene to Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, where he passed away, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed to That’s Farming in a statement.

A second male youth in his teens was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore to be treated for his injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.
