Lakeland Dairies announces milk price for April

The Board of Lakeland Dairies has, today (Thursday, May 13th), confirmed the co-operative’s milk price for April 2021.

Lakeland Dairies is the third processor to announce its price for April supplies, following Kerry Group and Glanbia.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the processor said:

“In the Republic of Ireland, Lakeland Dairies will pay the same price of 35.40 cpl for April milk as it paid in March.”

“This is inclusive of VAT and a 1 cent unconditional bonus for all April milk at 3.6% fat and 3.3% protein).”

In Northern Ireland, the co-operative will pay the same 29p/litre as paid in March, which includes a 1p/litre unconditional bonus.

“The markets have stabilised and remain in balance as demand currently matches milk output across the globe.”

“Overall, there is a general stability across the main commodity segments. Conditions in the food-service sector have started to improve on a tentative basis as lockdowns are eased, and vaccine roll-out continues.”

Lakeland Dairies said it will continue to “monitor the market closely” in the coming weeks.

Kerry Group

Kerry Group became the first processor to reveal its April milk price on Monday, May 10th, 2021.

In a statement to That’s Farming, a spokesperson said:

“Our Kerry Group base price for April milk supplies is 34c/l incl VAT at 3.30% Prot/3.60% Bfat and 37.35c/l incl VAT at EU standard constituents 3.40% Prot/4.20% butterfat.”

“Based on Kerry’s average milk solids for April, the milk price return inclusive of VAT and bonuses is 36.60c/l.”

Glanbia

Meanwhile, Glanbia announced its April milk price yesterday (Wednesday, May 12th).

In a statement, a spokesperson for Glanbia said:

“Glanbia will pay its member milk suppliers 34.6 cent per litre (cpl) (including VAT) for April creamery milk supplies at 3.6% butterfat and 3.3% protein.”

“Glanbia Ireland (GI) will pay a base milk price for April of 34.18 cpl (including VAT) for creamery milk at 3.6% fat and 3.3% protein. This is unchanged from the March base price.

Furthermore, farmer members will also receive a 0.42 cpl (including VAT) payment from Glanbia Co-op on all milk supplied this month as their ‘Share of GI Profit’.

“The Glanbia Ireland base price and Co-op “Share of GI Profit” payment will be adjusted to reflect the actual constituents of milk delivered by suppliers.”

Furthermore, the Glanbia milk price for April creamery milk, based on LTO constituents of 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein, is 37.65 cpl.

Glanbia Ireland, chairman John Murphy said:

“While there is volatility in the price returns for some products, dairy markets generally remain solid.”

“Retail demand continues to be strong while food-service demand is starting to recover in some regions. The board will continue to monitor developments on a monthly basis,” he added.
