Last week’s cattle prices

According to George Candler, purchasers were “still anxious to purchase cattle, especially quality lots,” at Kilkenny Mart’s sale on Thursday, April 13th, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer forward cattle remained an “excellent” trade, with quality lots ranging from €2.80 to €3.40 per kilo, with some exceptional lots approaching the €4 per kilo bracket.

“Quality light store bullocks and heifers are the ones making the biggest price per kilo with anything from €3.00/kg to €4.60/kg being achieved.”

“Thursday saw a somewhat smaller sale in Kilkenny, with some 1,050 lots on offer. We held the smallest cull cow sale in months, with a little less than 100 on offer. The trade in this sector still remains very strong,” Candler added.
