Factories dropping quotes ‘leading to frustration and anger’ – Candler

Farming News/ Mart Reports: Kilkenny Mart – Cattle Prices – 29-06-2023

According to George Candler, some 560 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s cattle sale on Thursday, June 29th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that trade forward store bullocks and heifers was “quieter compared to the previous week”.

“Cull cows were also more difficult to get away, although only one in this category failed to sell.”

“Lighter store bullocks and heifers, especially quality lots, specifically continentals, showed an improvement.”

“The impact caused by quotes being dropped on a weekly basis by factories is leading to a lot of frustration and anger from the hard-pressed beef producer. Do factories want this sector to survive?” Candler asked.
