Bullocks to €2,520 and heifers to €2,170 in Headford

Farming News/Mart Reports on That’s Farming – Headford Co-operative Livestock Mart – 02-09-2023 – Cattle Prices

A spokesperson for Headford Co-operative Livestock Mart reported a “cracker of a sale for all cattle across the board” on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

They noted that there was an increased number on offer in comparison to the previous week.

In the bullock ring, prices topped at €2,520, while cull cows pushed up to €1,780 and heifers made up to €2,170.

Cull cow prices:

  • LMX – 775 kg – €1780 or €2.30/kg;
  • CHX – 735 kg – €1630 or €2.22/kg;
  • LMX – 650 kg – €1670 or €2.25/kg;
  • HEX – 745 kg – €1520 or €2.04/kg.

Bullock prices:

  • CHX – 765 kg – €2520 or €3.29/kg;
  • AAX – 680 kg – €1980 or €2.91/kg;
  • CHX – 600 kg – €1810 or €3.02/kg;
  • LMX – 555kg – €1720 or €3.10/kg;
  • CHX – 580 kg – €1730 or €2.98/kg;
  • LMX – 495 kg – €1600 or €3.23/kg;
  • CHX – 540 kg – €1720 or €3.19/kg;
  • AAX – 435 kg – €1140 or €2.62/kg;
  • LMX – 440 kg – €1470 or €3.34/kg;
  • CHX – 388 kg – €1250 or €3.22/kg;
  • LMX – 455kg – €1110 or €2.44/kg.

Heifer prices

  • LM – 670 kg – €2170 or €3.24/kg;
  • LMX – 690 kg – €2170 or €3.14/kg;
  • CHX – 605 kg – €1840 or €3.04/kg;
  • CHX – 640 kg – €1840 or €2.88/kg;
  • SIX – 615 kg – €1600 or €2.60/kg;
  • CHX – 575 kg – €1730 or €3.01/kg;

  • AAX – 520 kg – €1420 or €2.73/kg.

Sheep prices

Meanwhile, according to the spokesperson, just shy of 1,500 sheep came under the hammer at Saturday’s sale, with sample prices across various sections as follows:
Store/factory lambs:

  • 38 kg making €104 per head or €3.06/kg;
  • 58 kg making €166 per head or €2.76/kg;
  • 55 kg making €150 per head or €2.25/kg;
  • 48 kg making €140 per head or €2.76/kg;
  • 46 kg making €167 per head or €2.97/kg.

Ewe lamb prices:

  • 51 kg making € 175 per head or €3.38/kg;
  • 41 kg making € 145 per head or €3.48/kg;
  • 44 kg making € 156 per head or €3.83/kg;
  • 47 kg making €145 per head or €3.09/kg.

Cull ewe prices:

  • 72 kg making €90 per head;
  • 76 kg making €90 per head;
  • 88 kg making €158 per head.

Other categories:

  • 1st crop ewes – €140 to €162;
  • Breeding ewe hoggets from €116 up to €214 per head.
