Pics: Glenford Aubrac Sale: 6 highest-priced lots as bulls to €4,000 & females to €3,500

The aptly named May-2021-born Glenford Peter Pan called the shots at Glenford Pedigree Livestock Herd’s timed virtual auction, which the McGraths held on Mart Eye’s platform in conjunction with Mid-Tipp (Thurles) Mart.

The hammer fell at €4,000 on Monday evening (April 3rd, 2023) for Lot 12, a son of Whitestown Leyland ET (AU5506), the herd’s stock sire, which currently stands in Eurogene AI and Altamont Jalina.

The fertility-tested bull (main image), which the breeders described as “the big gun, one of the best bulls we have bred”, hails from one of the herd’s most prolific lines.

According to the sales catalogue, he has a 7% calving difficulty figure on beef heifers and a 2.5% rating on beef cows and boasts five stars within and across the breed for replacement, docility, and carcass conformation.

He has a replacement index of €183, a terminal index of €119, rates four stars within and across the breed for terminal and daughter’s milk (kg) and has a DBI figure of €111.

Moreover, he is a myostatin non-carrier of the C313Y, D182N, E226X, L64P, NT419, NT821, Q204X and S105C genes.

Runaway

On his heels, at the herd’s inaugural Aubrac production sale €3,500 was lot number 5, Runaway, a February-2021-born Whitestown Leyland ET daughter out of the 2016 Tullamore Show Reserve champion 2016, Altamont Honey, due to calf (scanned) early November to Pacha – AU8319.

According to the McGraths, she is “from one of the best cow families in the herd” and was part of the herd’s 2022 show team, having scooped the supreme champion silverware in Tinahely and placing second in her class in Tullamore.

According to the sales catalogue, she is a double myostatin carrier of the profit gene – F94L – and is a myostatin non-carrier of the C313Y, D182N, E226X, L64P, NT419, NT821, Q204X and S105C genes.

Pretty Girl

Her former show team counterpart, lot 2, Pretty Girl, a November-2020-born Eros (S1462) daughter, due in August 2023 to sexed semen OTTO, a new polled Aubrac sire (scanned in-calf), followed at €3,400.

In the sales catalogue, the breeders remarked that “this girl lives up to her name and is from the best cow family in the herd, as her dam was Tullamore supreme champion 2015, Glencara Isla”. Pretty Girl was exhibited at Tullamore Show last August herself, where she stood first in her class.

She is a single myostatin carrier of the F94L and NT821 genes and is a myostatin non-carrier of the C313Y, D182N, E226X, L64P, NT419, NT821, Q204X and S105C genes.
