Gardaí seeking public assistance in identifying cattle thieves

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the theft of six bullocks from lands in Shrule, Co. Mayo, as reported by us here.

The six continental bullocks, worth an estimated €10,000, were recovered by a young farmer and a family member, who distributed the thieves who were unloading the animals from a truck into a field near Balla Mart.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Claremorris are appealing to anyone who may have observed transport vehicles in the vicinity of Shrule between 5pm on October 5 and 4pm on October 6 or at Balla on the evening of Friday, October 9th to make contact with them.”

“Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for this theft.”

“Anyone who noticed transportation of livestock in these areas on the relevant dates, are asked to come forward. In particular, Gardaí wish to speak to anyone who may have video or dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to make contact with Gardaí at Claremorris Garda Station on (094) 9372080.

“Gardaí wish to thank the public for their assistance in this matter and are glad to report that the six bullocks have now been returned to their owner.” the statement concluded.
