Shippers active for weanling bulls in Ennis

Farming News/Mart Reports: Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 18-07-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, some 250 lots came under the hammer at its most recent general cattle sale on Tuesday, July 18^th, 2023.

A small entry of suckler stock changed hands at the sale with highs of €2,250 and in-calf lots made to €1,780.

The spokesperson noted: “Again, shippers were extremely active for bull weanlings.”

“A top price of €4.26/kg was achieved in the bull ring, while heifers reached €3.71/kg.”

“Some great calves were on offer at Tuesday’s sale, with a top price of €800 for a Limousin bull calf, out of a BBX dam and born on 30-06-2023. There was a strong mix of continentals and traditional breeds.”

Last week’s sale

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, numbers were back compared to the corresponding special sale of autumn-born weanlings on Tuesday, March 11^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

They reported that “trade was strong but no dearer overall than previous weeks”.

“Quite a number of strong weanlings available and again, shippers were very active in the bull ring, as were a few bull finishers also.”

At Tuesday’s sale, bulls hit €4.18/kg and heifers reached €4.20/kg.

The spokesperson said that the bull ring attracted “some great quality”, with more “mixed quality” in the heifer ring.
