Male in ‘serious’ condition after tractor turns on its side

A male in his late teens remains in a “serious” condition after the tractor he was driving turned on its side in Co Clare yesterday (Wednesday, August 10th, 2022).

The young male was airlifted from the scene of the RTC in Scariff yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for Garda Síochána told That’s Farming:

“Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred in Scariff, Co. Clare yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, August 10th, 2022, at approximately 5.30 pm.”

“A tractor turned on its side while travelling on the R461. The male driver of the vehicle (late teens) was taken to The Mater Hospital, Dublin by air ambulance where his condition is described as serious.”

“Gardaí in Killaloe are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them on 061 620 540. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson concluded.

Local publication, The Clare Herald, understands that the driver was working in the area for a contractor and was drawing bales when the collision occurred.

It is thought that he lost control of the agricultural vehicle on the country road and overturned.

Fatal workplace accident in Galway

Meanwhile, last month, we reported that Gardaí have launched an investigation following a fatal workplace accident on a farm in Co Galway.

The accident, involving a male (60s), occurred on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022, in Gort.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal workplace accident in the Derreen area of Gort, Co. Galway.”

“At approximately 7:10 pm, the body of a man aged in his sixties was located on a farm in the area.”

“The body of the man was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.”

“The Health & Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and will conduct an investigation of their own,” the spokesperson concluded.
