Cattle trade ‘on par with previous week’ at Raphoe – Harkin

Farming News/Mart Reports: Raphoe Mart – Cattle Prices – 06-07-2023

According to Ann Harkin, there was “brisk” bidding around the ring for a larger entry of cattle at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, July 6^th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that trade “remained on par” with previous weeks, as outlined in this mart report.

Demand continued for quality lots and forward stock, with prices from €2.50/kg to €3.20/kg on the day.

Medium weights made from €2.60/kg to €3.40/kg., while lighter weights fetched from €2.60/kg to €3.60/kg.

Friesian cattle changed hands from €1.80/kg to €2.30/kg, while Aberdeen Angus types sold from €2.20/kg to €2.60/kg.

This week’s sheep prices

According to Harkin, there was a “brisk” trade for the stock on offer at this week’s sale on Monday, July 3^rd, 2023.

Fat ewes sold from €60/head to €224/head, while lambs topped out at €162/head.

Lambs sold at:

• €70 to €90 for 27-33kgs;
• €90 to €110 for 33-35kgs;
• €110 to €130 for 36-40kgs;
• €130 to €150 for 41-43kgs;
• €150 to €162 for 44-55kgs.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to Ann Harkin, there was another “good” entry at last week’s sale at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, June 29^th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that demand “continued” for stock around the ring with highs of €2,490.

Dry cows topped out at €1970 for 780kgs and €1840 for 660kgs.

Forward cattle met a “lively” trade, selling to €2490 for 795kgs and €2460 for 770kgs.

Meanwhile, medium weights pushed to €1330 for 430kgs and €1310 for 420kgs, and lighter cattle fetched up to €620 for 225kgs and €1050 for 335kgs.
