Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 17-06-2023
According to David Quinn, cattle were up by €20-€30/head at Carnew Mart on Saturday, June 17th, 2023.
The mart manager reported that some 720 lots came under the hammer, and they met with an “improved” trade.
Quinn remarked: “Beef very much in demand, especially for heavy cows and cattle in general.”
“€3.00/kg was commonplace for quality heifers and bullocks, with weanling bulls meeting a very strong trade.”
“There was up to €4.50/kg for good quality shipping bulls, while bulls, in general, weighing 350-450kg, sold from €2.91/kg-€3.70/kg,” Quinn remarked.

That’s Farming previously interviewed David Quinn, who took over the running and management of Carnew Mart, a family-run business.
Carnew Mart, one of the biggest sheep and cattle marts in Ireland, operates a two-ring system, as he explained:
“In the mid-1990s, the mart had a throughput of 400 head of cattle, calves, and 1,500 sheep. There is no comparison with the numbers we are dealing with now.”
